Shevchenko severed ties with his former partners due to their collaboration with Russia
Andriy Shevchenko, president of the Ukrainian Football Association, spoke about his views on his former colleagues in Italian soccer who, after the outbreak of full-scale war, continued to work with Russian companies or visited Russia.
According to Shevchenko, such actions were painful for him, as he did not expect such a stance from people with whom he had long-standing professional and personal ties. He emphasized that their relationship effectively ended after that.
“I expressed my disappointment, and they know it. They’ll have to live with that—it’s their choice. For now, our relationship is on hold. It hurt me,” Shevchenko said.
It should be noted that Andriy Shevchenko is primarily referring to the legendary Italian soccer players and 2006 World Cup champions Andrea Pirlo, Marco Materazzi, and Francesco Totti, who visited Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine had already begun.
