Sprinter Sinesipho Dambile finished fourth in the 200m in Budapest — TimesLIVE
South African sprinter Sinesipho Dambile took fourth place in the 200 metres at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, Hungary. In the final, the 24-year-old athlete recorded 19.91 seconds and edged Canada’s Andre De Grasse by one hundredth of a second.
Final results
American Kenny Bednarek won the event with the world’s best result of the season — 19.52 seconds. He completed a winning double in the 100 and 200 metres. Botswana’s Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo finished second in 19.76 seconds, while another US representative, Courtney Lindsey, took third place with 19.79 seconds.
Earlier that evening, Dambile won the second semifinal, covering the distance in 19.80 seconds. In that race, he beat De Grasse, who clocked 19.87 seconds, as well as Jamaica’s Brian Levell — 20.08 seconds. According to TimesLIVE, in the final the South African came out of the bend far behind the leaders but finished fourth.

Dambile’s season
Despite missing out on a medal in Budapest, this season has been successful for Dambile. He won in Glasgow, claimed one Diamond League victory and finished second in the series final a week before the competition in Hungary. This year, the athlete has run under 20 seconds in the 200 metres nine times, including eight consecutive starts since June.
In April, Dambile recorded 19.77 seconds, and in June — 19.74 seconds. South Africans Gift Leotlela and Akani Simbine also reached the finals at the Budapest tournament: in the 100 metres, they finished sixth and eighth respectively.
