Footballer Rodman arrived at Shelton's US Open final after her own match
American footballer Trinity Rodman arrived at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, United States, on September 13 after her Washington Spirit match to support her boyfriend, tennis player Ben Shelton, in the US Open final. She made it to Shelton's box before the end of the match, in which he lost to Germany's Alexander Zverev.
Trip after the match
Rodman played for Washington Spirit in a match against Boston Legacy, which ended in a 0-3 defeat for her team. After the game, she travelled about 200 miles from Washington to New York. The footballer attended the final wearing a T-shirt featuring Shelton.
According to Channel NewsAsia, it was Shelton's first Grand Slam final. He lost to Zverev 6-3, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-2. Shelton told reporters that he understood how difficult it would be for Rodman to get to the match and praised her efforts.

Zverev's joke
During the awards ceremony, Zverev joked with Rodman about the time of her arrival, calling her Shelton's lucky charm that did not help this time. The couple made their relationship public in March 2025. Rodman attended Shelton's tournaments, including his title-winning performances in Dallas and Stuttgart this year, while Shelton has attended Washington Spirit matches.
Rodman was also present at several of Shelton's matches during the US Open, including his quarterfinal victory over defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. That match ended at 3:33 a.m., the latest finish in US Open history.
