In Sydney, Australia, on September 30, 2000, South African high jumper Hestrie Cloete won a silver medal at the Sydney Games. She cleared 2.01 m, the same as Russian winner Yelena Yelesina, but lost the gold medal on countback, TimesLIVE reports.

Cloete’s only failed attempt at 1.96 m affected the distribution of medals. Both athletes used two attempts to clear 2.01 m, and neither cleared 2.03 m. The result of 2.01 m was a season best for both jumpers.
