Tunisia draw with Botswana in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying — Asharq Al-Awsat

Tunisia's national team drew 2:2 with Botswana in Rades in the second round of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The result extended the Tunisian team's winless run to eight matches, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.

Tunisia came back but failed to hold on to the win

Botswana opened the scoring in the 37th minute through Tatayone Kgamanyane. The hosts took the lead after two goals by Hazem Mastouri, who scored before and after the break. However, Lebogang Ditshele equalized in the 60th minute, denying Tunisia their first win in qualifying.

For Tunisia, this was the second consecutive draw at the start of qualifying: in the previous match, the team drew 1:1 at home with Uganda. After two rounds, Botswana and Tunisia have two points each, while Libya and Uganda have one apiece. In the next group match, Uganda will play Libya in Hoima.

Other qualifying results

In Group E, the Democratic Republic of the Congo defeated Zimbabwe 2:1 in Harare and earned six points from two matches. Yoane Wissa scored the first goal and assisted Samuel Moutoussamy, who doubled the visitors' lead late in the first half. Marshall Munetsi reduced Zimbabwe's deficit, but the Congolese held on for the win.

Equatorial Guinea beat Sierra Leone 1:0 in neutral Yaounde thanks to an early goal by Loren Zuniga. In Group F, Burkina Faso defeated the Central African Republic 1:0 in Casablanca: the only goal in the 60th minute was scored by Aboubacar Kamara of Red Bull Salzburg.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations finals, to be held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17 next year. The tournament will feature 24 teams.
