St Leger Festival begins at Doncaster with two Group 2 races
The St Leger Festival will begin in Doncaster on Thursday. The main events of the opening day will be two Group 2 races — the Betfred Park Hill Fillies' Stakes and the Betfred May Hill Stakes. Sky Sports News reports on the opening-day programme.
Consent and Danielle in the Park Hill
Nine runners, including Consent and Danielle, will compete in the Betfred Park Hill Fillies' Stakes. Last year, Danielle finished fourth in this race and then won a Listed race at the same venue by nine lengths in November. This season, she won the Bronte Cup but performed unsuccessfully at Goodwood. William Buick will ride Danielle.
Consent finished second last year, losing by only a neck, and later won the Group 1 Prix de Royallieu. Other contenders include Prizeland, which won the Galtres Stakes at York, Waardah and Fairy Glen. Waardah will race in a hood for the first time, while Fairy Glen returns after finishing second in the May Prix Vicomtesse Vigier.

The Charlie Appleby filly beat Scommessa Sicura on her debut at Newmarket before winning at Yarmouth. Scommessa Sicura has finished in the top two in all five of her starts and was second at Salisbury last month.
The day's programme also includes the Weatherbys £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes. Night In Vegas finished fifth in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and won the Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes, worth £200,000, on his latest start. His rivals will include Mithaaly, Zigazig Ah and Seven Nation Army.
