A Ukrainian boxer won gold at the European Boxing Championships in Sofia

A Ukrainian boxer became the 2026 European champion at an amateur tournament in Sofia. The continental championship, organized under the auspices of World Boxing, is currently underway in the Bulgarian capital.

 

The gold medal for Ukraine in the 65-kilogram weight class was won by seven-time national champion and International Master of Sports Elvin Aliyev

In the final bout, the Ukrainian defeated French World Cup champion Hugo Grau by technical knockout in the first round. This is Ukraine’s first gold medal at Euro 2026.

On his way to the final, our boxer defeated Belgium’s Rasul Tisaev (5–0) and Malik Khasanov of Azerbaijan (5–0), and in the semifinals, he gave Moldova’s Alexandru Paraskevich no chance (5:0), according to Ukrinform.

As a reminder, Alina Marushchak, the undisputed world champion from Ukraine, has changed her citizenship.
