Cyclist Ethan Hayter cut undersized shorts at the Vuelta a España
British cyclist Ethan Hayter was forced to cut his shorts during the second stage of the Vuelta a España on August 23 because the organizers had issued him equipment that was too small. This was reported by Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters.
XS-size shorts
The 27-year-old Soudal–Quick-Step rider started in the green jersey of the points classification leader. According to Hayter, the organizers provided him only with XS-size shorts and had no spare set. The cyclist was offered a choice between team kit and the green jersey, but he decided to remain in the points classification jersey.
During the race, the undersized shorts squeezed his legs so tightly that Hayter was forced to cut them. He said that he felt better afterward, although the equipment looked unusual.

Fight for the red jersey
The day before, Hayter came close to beating Tadej Pogačar in the opening individual time trial in Monaco. On the second hilly 214-kilometer stage from Monaco to Manosque, he broke away from a small group of leaders and gained six bonus seconds.
The Briton had a chance to take the overall lead and receive the red jersey, but was later caught. He finished the stage near the back of the peloton, but was due to retain the green points classification leader's jersey the following day.
