A journalist mourned Messi's father on live TV and lost her job
A scandal has erupted in Argentina surrounding Lionel Messi’s family after TV host Florencia Peña mistakenly reported the death of the soccer player’s father, Jorge Messi, during a live broadcast.
During one of the show’s episodes, the journalist claimed that the father of the Argentine national team captain had allegedly died, which would force Messi to leave the national team during the World Cup.
The information later turned out to be false. Following the scandal, Peña resigned from her position, and Luzu TV management launched an internal investigation into the employees involved in spreading the false information.
The host explained that she had received this information from the editorial team during the live broadcast and trusted their verification. She also publicly apologized to Messi’s family for the distress caused.
