Automattic appoints Jeremy Klaperman as interim CFO — TechCrunch

Automattic has appointed Jeremy Klaperman as interim chief financial officer. He is the CFO of the WordPress VIP Enterprise division and previously served as Automattic’s acting CFO when the previous finance chief, Mark Davis, was on sabbatical.

Leadership changes

As TechCrunch reports, Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg informed employees about Klaperman’s appointment in Slack. The news came after an attempt to remove Mullenweg from the CEO position last week. Ultimately, the board members who voted to remove him, as well as other executives, including then-CFO Mark Davis, left the company.

Davis briefly served as acting CEO, but Mullenweg later returned to the CEO role. According to Mullenweg, the new board of directors, whose composition has not yet been announced, must assess internal and external candidates before making a final decision on the CFO position.

Chief legal officer position

Mullenweg also said that a candidate for the chief legal officer position had verbally agreed to take on the role. This person is to replace Andy Missan, who left Automattic together with Davis. TechCrunch previously reported that Davis and Missan entered into mutual severance agreements during Mullenweg’s 33-hour absence before his return as CEO.

In his post, Mullenweg said he was “100% confident in our liquidity and financial position.” He also noted that special adviser and Wolfram|Alpha creator Stephen Wolfram would remain in his position. Automattic’s next board meeting is scheduled for September 23.
