BYOK plans to add user extensions through scripts
The distraction-free writing device BYOK plans to introduce a system of optional scripts that will make it possible to expand its capabilities without adding a large number of features to the device itself. The Verge reports.
Optional scripts
BYOK is positioned as a simple device for working with text. At the same time, some users need additional capabilities, including note-taking, screenwriting, or organizing materials for a large novel.
BYOK founder Nick Scholinder was looking for a way to combine these needs with the device's minimalist approach. Rather than adding many features that most users may not use or increasing the number of formats in the Studio app, the company plans to use optional scripts.

Possible tools
Examples of such extensions include a screenwriting assistant, a character notes tool, and a text analyzer. The scripts could potentially make it possible to select document fragments and save them as notes or identify the use of passive voice.
The scripts feature is at an early stage of development and has not yet been made publicly available. BYOK is collecting user feedback on this approach.
