The next lunar eclipse will occur on February 20, 2027. It will be a penumbral eclipse, during which the Moon will pass through the outer, less dark part of Earth's shadow. This was reported by Space.com.
Barely noticeable darkening
During this event, Earth's deep inner shadow, called the umbra, will not touch the lunar disk. Therefore, the darkening will be much less pronounced than during a partial lunar eclipse, when the Moon enters the umbra and a curved silhouette of Earth's shadow appears on its surface.
The effect is expected to be most noticeable at 6:12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), or 23:12 GMT. At that moment, the Moon will come closest to Earth's umbra. The deepest penumbra will fall on the area of the Moon's north pole, but the changes in brightness, according to Space.com, will be very faint.

The February event will occur during the full moon, which in the English-speaking tradition is called the “Snow Moon.” This name is associated with the frosty weather typical of this time of year.
The next total lunar eclipse is expected on New Year's Eve in December 2028. Then the Moon will take on the appearance of the so-called “blood moon” in the sky over Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Ocean. Space.com notes that during the partial eclipse in August 2026, light filtered through Earth's atmosphere gave the Moon a deep red hue at the peak of the event.
