How artificial intelligence complicates HR departments with mass complaints

HR departments are increasingly overwhelmed by complaints generated using artificial intelligence, which have become far more complex and can span up to 30 pages. Anna Bond, legal director at Lewis Silkin, notes that the rise in these complaints is clearly linked to AI usage. These complaints often address outdated issues or include references to fictitious legal precedents, including citations of Canadian law irrelevant in England.

Sinead Casey, a labour law partner at Linklaters, describes these complaints as "incompetent" — they may seem convincing at first but fail legal scrutiny. Louise Rudd, a mediator consultant at Acas, adds that AI can mislead employees by supplying incorrect references or prompting them to cite invalid precedents.

This trend poses extra challenges for HR departments, requiring more time for complaint verification and legal advice. Going forward, legal teams may need to develop new methods to detect and manage AI-generated complaints efficiently.
