Humanity has used up the Earth's annual supply of natural resources
July 30 marked Earth Overshoot Day—the date after which humanity begins to consume more natural resources than the planet can regenerate in a single year.
According to estimates by the Global Footprint Network, current consumption levels require the resources of approximately 1.7 Earths. Among the main causes are large-scale deforestation of tropical forests, overfishing, depletion of freshwater supplies, and high greenhouse gas emissions.
Researchers note that more than 70% of large groundwater reserves are being steadily depleted, and more than half of the world’s fish populations are being overexploited. At the same time, tropical forest areas continue to shrink, exacerbating climate risks.
Despite this, the date of Earth Overshoot Day has remained virtually unchanged in recent years, indicating a slowdown in the rate of growth of global consumption of natural resources.

Astronauts have taken X-rays of the human body in space for the first time.
