German Minister of Digital Affairs Carsten Wildberger has come under fire for regularly using artificial intelligence to draft official public statements. The official used generative models to draft articles for leading newspapers, speeches in the Bundestag, and international addresses. 

According to an investigation by the newspaper Die Zeit, which analyzed the texts using specialized software, a significant portion of the German official’s materials contain distinct stylistic hallmarks of AI generation. 

In particular, his 2024 speech in Washington before the Atlantic Council think tank was, according to experts, entirely generated by artificial intelligence. In response to criticism, an official spokesperson for the ministry confirmed this information and explained that Wildberger considers AI a useful tool for structuring thoughts and selecting phrasing. The newly established ministry assured that the technology plays only a technical role as a sparring partner, and all finished content is always reviewed and approved by human editors before publication.
