The new expansion for "The Witcher 3" will not feature Russian voice acting
The Polish studio CD Projekt RED has announced that the new expansion for *The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt*, titled *Ballads of the Past*, will not include Russian voice acting.
When the expansion launches, the audio will automatically switch to Polish. At the same time, the text will remain fully available in Russian translation, as before.
Russian voice acting will remain in the main game, as well as in the two previous expansions—“Hearts of Stone” and “Blood and Wine.”
This decision is related to the policy of the Polish studio, which, as of March 2022, has ceased cooperation with tax residents of Russia and Belarus.
The announcement sparked lively discussion among Russian-speaking fans of the game. The post with the official statement in the Russian-language "The Witcher" Telegram community had garnered over 2,000 comments by the time the news broke.
By comparison, neighboring posts announcing new releases received fewer than 300 comments.
The Gamescom expo kicked off in Cologne on August 25. On the first day of the event, CD Projekt RED unveiled a trailer for a new expansion to “The Witcher 3.”
In “The Ballad of the Past,” the game’s protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, will travel to the new region of Letten, which is the hometown of his friend Lute.
The expansion is scheduled for release in 2027, though the studio has not yet announced an exact release date.
