The court has concluded the case involving large-scale abuses at a military unit in the Zaporizhzhia region, where an official from the financial and economic service had, over a long period of time, established a scheme to embezzle budget funds by exploiting his official access to the payroll system.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the head of the payroll group entered false data into the “Payroll Project” system, using information about discharged military personnel and several dozen bank accounts to which he transferred funds, after which he laundered them through cash transactions, transfers, payments for purchases and loans, and spent part of the funds on gambling, among other things.

As a result of these actions, the state, represented by the Ministry of Defense, suffered losses of over 9.7 million UAH, as confirmed by the materials of the investigation and court proceedings; and the defendant himself, according to law enforcement, systematically exploited his official position for personal gain from May 2023 to April 2025.
It was also established that in April 2025, the man left his post without authorization in an attempt to evade responsibility and even staged a departure abroad; however, in January 2026, he was detained by law enforcement.
The court found him guilty on several counts—misappropriation of funds on an especially large scale, money laundering, and desertion — and sentenced him to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property and a ban on holding certain positions for three years, as well as granting the Ministry of Defense’s civil claim for compensation for damages.
In the Kyiv region, an official was detained for extorting half of the compensation for “e-Restoration.”
In Ukraine, three Russian agents were convicted of arson and passing coordinates to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
