Belarus is reinforcing its troops near the border, but there is no threat of an offensive – State Border Guard Service of Ukraine
Belarus continues to build up its military presence near the border with Ukraine and is forming a new airborne assault brigade; however, there is currently no immediate threat of an offensive. This was reported by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, who emphasized that the situation is under constant monitoring.
The Ukrainian side is closely watching the situation and constantly monitoring potential risks. The State Border Guard Service views Belarus’s actions as a potential threat, but there is no basis to suggest preparations for an offensive, and the deployed forces are not capable of posing an immediate danger to the country.
According to Andriy Demchenko, Minsk has been using rhetoric about an alleged threat from Ukraine since 2022, citing this as justification for strengthening its own military capabilities in the southern direction.

Belarus has begun forming a new 37th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade, which will be stationed near Gomel—approximately 40 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. Alexander Ilyukevich, commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces, announced this on the Belarusian military television channel.
As a reminder, Lukashenko stated that Belarusian servicemen will not take part in the war against Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that one should not be naive about Belarus’s role in Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, Minsk is under Moscow’s strong influence, and most of the Belarusian government’s decisions are effectively dictated by the Kremlin.
