Prosecutors in Brovary have been charged with attempted fraud involving $100,000.

The first deputy head and prosecutor of the Brovary District Prosecutor’s Office have been notified of their status as suspects in an attempted fraud case involving particularly large sums. 

According to the investigation, law enforcement officers seized cash from the businessman without legal grounds, and after a court ruling ordered its return, they began demanding money in exchange for not interfering in his business activities. The initial bribe amount was $100,000, which was later reduced to $50,000.

To transfer the funds, the suspects used a scheme involving a QR code and a currency exchange office in central Kyiv, where the entrepreneur was to leave the money at the counter. The operation was conducted under the supervision of law enforcement agencies, who seized the funds directly at the exchange office after confirming receipt via a messaging app. Currently, the first deputy head of the prosecutor’s office has been placed under pretrial detention with the possibility of posting bail exceeding 6 million UAH, and the prosecutor has been suspended from office. A similar motion for arrest with the right to bail has been filed with the court regarding the second suspect.

It was previously reported that the suspected prosecutors used a fabricated threat of seizure of land plots—which were being used legally—to blackmail the businessman. The suspects offered to “resolve the issue” without any real procedural grounds.
