Budanov has been appointed head of the Coordination Council on Veterans and Prisoners of War

Kirill Budanov has been appointed head of the newly established Coordination Council, which is tasked with improving the effectiveness of the support system for veterans, prisoners of war, and the families of fallen soldiers and those missing in action. The body includes representatives of key state institutions, law enforcement agencies, and relevant ministries, which will allow for the coordination of efforts among various agencies on these issues.

According to the document, the newly established council is designed to ensure effective cooperation among government agencies in the area of protecting the rights and legitimate interests of war veterans, their family members, the families of fallen soldiers, as well as prisoners of war and those missing in action.

The newly established body includes representatives of key state institutions, law enforcement agencies, and relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Foreign Intelligence Service, as well as the Office of the President and the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.

The Council’s members also include the Commissioner for Missing Persons, the Military Ombudsman, representatives of the National Security and Defense Council, and other officials involved in coordinating the protection of the rights of veterans and military families.

At the same time, a number of other consultative and advisory bodies that previously operated in this area have been dissolved. With the document’s entry into force, their activities have been suspended.

Recently, at the Third Conference on the Reintegration of Veterans, Kirill Budanov emphasized that veterans should become moral authorities in Ukrainian society, and the state must create all conditions for their self-realization.

The relevant decree was published on June 6.

In Poland, Budanovraised the issue of bilateral relations.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski reported on private consultations with Ukraine regarding the possible naming of one of the Special Operations Forces units Heroes of the UPA.” According to him, this issue is being discussed in a diplomatic format.

Warsaw has reacted to the decision to rename the Ukrainian military unit. This concerns an elite unit of the Special Operations Forces, which, according to reports, was named in honor of the Heroes of the UPA. This has sparked a critical reaction in Polish society and political circles.
