Zelenskyy announced new long-range strikes against Russia
Ukraine continues to strike targets that help Russia wage war against Ukraine. Last night, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Defense Forces struck storage, preparation, and launch sites for attack drones in the Oryol and Rostov regions, as well as a military airfield in Yeysk and an oil refinery in the Leningrad region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new series of long-range strikes against military targets on Russian territory. According to him, the main goal of these attacks is to deprive the Russian army of the resources needed to continue the war against Ukraine. “Ukraine’s long-range strikes are aimed at depriving Russia of the resources to wage war,” Zelenskyy noted. He reported that on the night of August 30, the Ukrainian military struck targets associated with the launch of attack drones.
These include storage, preparation, and launch sites for drones in the Oryol and Rostov regions of Russia. According to the president, a military airfield in Yeisk was also struck. Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian forces also carried out a long-range strike on an oil refinery in the Leningrad region. He said this facility generates significant revenue for the Russian budget, part of which may be used to finance the war. “Our soldiers also carried out long-range strikes on an oil refinery in the Leningrad region, which contributes millions of dollars to the military budget every month,” the president said.
He also mentioned previous strikes by the Ukrainian military on Russian targets. According to Zelenskyy, effective long-range operations have been ongoing over the past few weeks. Specifically, he referred to targets in Bashkortostan and the Arkhangelsk region. The president emphasized that Ukraine must continue to develop its own long-range capabilities. “Russia must feel every day that the war is returning to where it came from,” Zelenskyy stated.
At the same time, the head of state stressed that military strikes must be complemented by sanctions from international partners. According to him, it is important to strengthen restrictions against Russian military infrastructure so that Moscow has fewer opportunities to produce weapons and support its army. Zelenskyy specifically drew attention to the foreign components used by Russian industry.
He noted that a significant portion of Russian missiles, drones, and other weapons cannot function without foreign components. This includes, in particular, electronic components, chemicals, and industrial machinery that Russia obtains through international supply chains. “The vast majority of the means by which the aggressor is terrorizing Ukrainian cities and communities cannot function without thousands upon thousands of foreign components, chemicals, and machine tools that Russia purchases from the West,” the president stated.
According to him, Ukraine is sharing information with its partners on how Russia circumvents international sanctions and through which schemes it obtains the necessary goods. In this way, Kyiv is attempting to act on two fronts simultaneously—reducing Russia’s ability to wage war by striking military and energy facilities while also seeking to increase the pressure of sanctions. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s long-range strikes should demonstrate to Russia the consequences of its aggression and make it more difficult for Russia to continue the war.
