What holiday is on October 6?
October 6 is the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle according to the church calendar. St. Thomas, often called Thomas the Doubting, was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. In the Gospel, he is known for the story that he initially did not believe in Christ’s resurrection until he saw him with his own eyes.
People also associated this date with observing nature. It was believed that the weather and the mushroom harvest in the fall could give clues as to what the coming winter would be like.
Folk Signs for October 6
On this day, people paid attention to the forest and the weather. One of the most famous signs says: if there are few mushrooms in the forest, winter will be harsh.
People also tried to predict what the rest of the fall would be like based on the weather on St. Thomas’s Day. Such signs have no scientific basis, but they have remained part of the folk calendar.
For now, the forecast for October 6 does indeed promise Ukrainians a warm and peaceful autumn day. The warm weather will linger a bit longer: according to forecasts, temperatures will rise to +25° in some areas on October 7, and in the west, it could reach +27° on October 8. However, a change in the weather and a drop in temperatures are expected toward the end of the week.
