Rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected across Ukraine this weekend
The last weekend of May in Ukraine will be cool and rainy. Forecasters predict brief showers, thunderstorms in some areas, and strong gusts of wind, while temperatures in most regions will remain moderate. This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.
Over the weekend, May 30 and 31, the weather in Ukraine will be unstable. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center’s forecast, most regions will see brief showers, and thunderstorms are possible in some areas. Residents of the southern and eastern regions should be especially cautious, as the inclement weather may be accompanied by strong winds. Forecasters note that atmospheric fronts will bring cloudiness and intermittent precipitation to nearly the entire country. At the same time, the rain will not be prolonged—there may be clear spells and sunny periods in between.
On Saturday, May 30, brief showers are expected in most regions. In the south and east, thunderstorms are forecast in some areas during the day. At night, there will be no significant precipitation only in Zakarpattia and in some eastern regions.
Winds will be predominantly from the northwest, with speeds of 5–10 meters per second. At the same time, in the southwestern regions, gusts of up to 15–20 meters per second are possible during the day. Such winds may complicate driving conditions and cause inconvenience for pedestrians. Air temperatures will remain fairly mild for late May. Overnight, temperatures across the country are expected to range from +4 to +9 degrees, and during the day, thermometers will show readings from +11 to +16 degrees.
It will be slightly warmer in western Ukraine. There, nighttime temperatures will range from +8 to +13 degrees, and during the day, the air will warm up to +17...+22 degrees. As usual, it will be warmest in Zakarpattia, where temperatures may reach +24 degrees in some places.
For residents of Kyiv and the surrounding region, forecasters also predict cloudy weather with some sunny breaks and brief showers. In the capital, temperatures are expected to be +7...+9 degrees at night and around +14...+16 during the day. In the region, temperatures will be slightly lower—from +4 to +9 degrees at night and from +11 to +16 during the day. However, the weather will begin to gradually change at the start of the new week. According to preliminary forecasts, starting June 1, air temperatures in Ukraine will begin to rise. In many regions, daytime temperatures are expected to range from +18 to +24 degrees, and summer will gradually come into its own.
Forecasters advise Ukrainians not to forget their umbrellas this weekend, to keep an eye on weather forecasts, and to be careful during strong gusts of wind. This applies especially to drivers, cyclists, and those planning outdoor activities. “The end of May this year will be more like mid-spring than early summer,” meteorologists note.
Despite the rain and cool temperatures, the weather remains comfortable for walks and travel. The main thing is to dress for the season and be prepared for sudden weather changes throughout the day.
