A former commander of a Territorial Defense Forces brigade has been notified of charges related to combat pay totaling 80 million hryvnia
Valeriy Kurka, the former commander of the 103rd Andrey Sheptytskyi Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, has been notified that he is a suspect in a case involving the payment of combat allowances to military personnel.
According to the investigation, between April 2023 and January 2024, he signed orders to pay additional compensation in the amount of 100,000 hryvnias to military personnel who had no legal grounds to receive it.
Law enforcement officials believe that the official failed to ensure proper oversight of the preparation of documents, even though he had the opportunity to verify the actual participation of personnel in combat missions.
As a result, according to the investigation, the military unit’s financial service made illegal payments, causing losses to the state budget of nearly 80 million hryvnias.
The former commander is charged with negligence in the performance of military duties under martial law, which led to serious consequences.
At the same time, the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, stated that he does not agree with the allegations. According to him, Valerii Kurko built the 103rd Brigade practically from scratch and, together with his unit, carried out combat missions on the front lines. Kozytskyi also expressed his willingness to vouch for the colonel during the selection of a preventive measure.
