In Odesa, an indictment has been filed against two individuals suspected of organizing the illegal production and sale of counterfeit jewelry bearing the logos of world-renowned brands. The value of the seized jewelry is nearly 4.6 million hryvnia, and the losses to the trademark owner are estimated at nearly 30 million hryvnia.

According to the investigation, the illegal scheme was organized by a 57-year-old Odessa resident registered as an entrepreneur whose business activity is listed as “Jewelry Manufacturing.” He set up a workshop in one of the city’s residential buildings, where jewelry was made from gold and silver using the trademarks of well-known jewelry brands without authorization.

According to investigators, he enlisted a 50-year-old Odesa woman to sell the products. The counterfeit jewelry was sold through a specialty store in a shopping and entertainment center, and orders were also accepted via social media and messaging apps, with the goods shipped by mail throughout Ukraine.

During the searches, BEB detectives seized counterfeit gold items worth nearly 4.6 million hryvnias and shut down the underground jewelry workshop.

According to the expert assessment, the illegal use of intellectual property caused losses to the rights-holding company amounting to nearly 30 million hryvnias. To ensure compensation, the seized property has been placed under seizure.

Both suspects are charged under Part 3 of Article 177 and Part 3 of Article 229 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of intellectual property rights and unlawful use of trademarks for goods and services. The indictment has already been submitted to the court.

If found guilty, they face up to six years in prison, a fine, and disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities.

This was reported on July 7 by the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine.

As a reminder, in Volyn, the Economic Security Bureau uncovered tax evasion totaling nearly ₴28 million in the flower business.

The Economic Security Bureau returned over 13 million hryvnias to the budget.
