Israel has opposed the reburial of Andriy Melnyk in Ukraine

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially lodged a strong protest over the state reburial ceremony for Andriy Melnyk, one of the leaders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists.

This was reported by the official diplomatic mission of the foreign state.

Officials in Jerusalem stated that such a state-level commemoration of an OUN figure significantly undermines the preservation of historical truth.

The Israeli side emphasized its unwavering position regarding the assessment of historical events of the World War II period. Diplomats called on the Ukrainian authorities to respect the feelings of the descendants of those who suffered under the Nazi regime.

This diplomatic move reflects the deep concern of official Jerusalem regarding Ukraine’s current commemorative policy.

Leading international institutions dedicated to researching the tragedy of the Jewish people have also joined in the criticism of official Kyiv.

In particular, the National Memorial issued its own official statement. Experts at the center consider such actions by the Ukrainian state unacceptable from the perspective of international morality.
