The second week of September marks the beginning of one of the most favorable periods for fishing. The gradual drop in air and water temperatures stimulates the metabolism of most fish species, which begin to feed intensively in preparation for the winter season. At this time, aquatic vegetation begins to die off and settle to the bottom, forcing small fish to leave shallow waters and move to deep pools, with large predators following in their wake.

Activity of Predatory and Non-Predatory Fish

For predator fishing, the period from September 7 to 13 is considered particularly favorable. Pike and large bass begin actively hunting near the edges of shallows, submerged snags, and at the edge of deep water. The main lures for them are silicone imitations, spoons, and medium-diving wobblers. Zander at this time begin to concentrate in deep-water areas with hard rocky or sandy bottoms, where they are effectively caught using jigging tackle during evening and nighttime twilight.

Peaceful fish, particularly carp, bream, and large crucian carp, also remain highly active feeders, though their taste preferences change. Plant-based baits gradually lose their former appeal, so it’s worth switching to animal-based baits, such as maggots, bloodworms, or manure worms. For a successful catch of bream and roach, it is recommended to use feeder tackle that allows for precise bait placement at depth.

Optimal Times and Recommendations for Fishing

The most productive times to head out to the water remain the morning hours from dawn until noon, as well as the evening twilight before sunset. Stable atmospheric pressure and a moderate southwesterly wind significantly increase your chances of a catch, while a sudden change in weather or a strong northerly wind can temporarily reduce fish activity. When choosing a spot, it’s best to opt for deep sections of rivers with a calm current or the inlets of reservoirs, while strictly adhering to fishing regulations and water safety measures.
