A moment of silence will now be announced over loudspeakers throughout Ukraine

Starting May 23, Ukraine will introduce a new system of remembrance, under which a signal marking a nationwide minute of silence will be broadcast daily at 9:00 a.m. via public address systems and loudspeakers

This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

Special audio alerts will also be used during other important nationwide commemorative events throughout the country.

The new initiative aims to foster public respect for Ukrainian heroes and civilians who lost their lives as a result of the full-scale aggression.

The audio signal will be broadcast over loudspeakers at specific times, as well as during certain significant events.

In particular, the alert systems will be activated daily at 9:00 a.m. for a nationwide moment of silence, as well as during the traditional “Light a Candle” campaign, held on the fourth Saturday of November.

This annual autumn event is traditionally dedicated to honoring the memory of the victims of the 1932–1933 Holodomor in Ukraine.

Special public address systems will broadcast daily reminders of the moment of silence for all citizens on city streets.

Separately, public address systems will be used on the days of other important national commemorative events.

“We are shaping a new culture of remembrance. The daily minute of silence is an important part of this and a manifestation of our respect for the fallen defenders and civilian citizens,” reads the official statement from the head of government.
