The Kyiv City Council has named Music School No. 8 after the renowned composer Levko Kolodub

Kyiv Children’s Music School No. 8 has officially been named after the legendary Ukrainian composer and educator Levko Kolodub.

The decision was adopted by members of the Kyiv City Council at a plenary session on April 23, 2026, with 68 votes in favor of honoring the artist’s memory.

The initiative came directly from the school’s staff, who sought to immortalize the name of this outstanding master in the school’s title.

Kyiv City Council member Viktoria Mukha emphasized that Kolodub is a fundamental figure for the national music school and the education of future generations of artists.

“Levko Kolodub is one of those Ukrainian composers whose work has become an integral part of national musical culture. Naming the Kyiv music school after him is a fitting tribute to a man who, through his work, strengthened Ukrainian culture,” Viktoria Mukha noted during her speech.

Levko Mykolayovych Kolodub (1930–2019) dedicated his life to the development of academic art and pedagogy.

For decades, he worked at the Kyiv Conservatory, where he earned the title of professor and headed the Department of Music and Information Technologies, nurturing hundreds of young talents.

The composer’s creative legacy includes dozens of operas, ballets, and symphonies that have become classics of Ukrainian music.

Among the artist’s most famous works are the operas “The Poet,” “Unbetrayed Love,” and “Duma about Turbai,” which are distinguished by their profound psychological depth and national flavor.
