Zelenskyy urged the European Union to speed up Ukraine's accession
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that there is an understanding in Europe of the need to grant Ukraine EU membership as soon as possible, but all parties need to step up their efforts.
The Ukrainian leader made these remarks in an interview for the “Yedyni Novyny” telethon.
“As for a fast-track or other ways to accelerate Ukraine’s full membership in the EU, there are different opinions in Europe. One thing is clear: everyone understands that Ukraine must receive this as soon as possible,” the president noted.
He also noted that there is a common position in Europe that Ukraine is 100% deserving of this.
“Third: we have reached a moment in history, in the geopolitical and security situation in Europe, when we need the European Union and the European Union very much needs Ukraine. Therefore, we must all move faster,” Zelenskyy added.
The president emphasized that not only Ukraine, but also European countries must do everything possible to accelerate Ukraine’s accession.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on European Union leaders to move forward as early as May with unblocking the negotiation clusters regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
Ukraine hopes that the European Union will open all six negotiation clusters regarding the country’s accession this year and also anticipates the possibility of closing at least one of them by the end of the year.
