The Commander of the National Guard commented on the possibility of mobilizing women

The situation on the front lines is not critical enough to warrant the mobilization of women, as many of them are already serving in the Defense Forces of their own volition.

This was stated by Oleksandr Pivnenko, commander of the National Guard of Ukraine. According to him, women are performing important tasks on the front lines, including serving as drone operators and combat medics. The head of the National Guard emphasized that there are currently enough men in the country to fill positions in the military, so there is no need for mandatory conscription of women.

As an example of women’s effective service in the National Guard, Pivnenko cited machine-gunner Oleksandra Davydenko, whose call sign is “Virva.” In March 2026, she was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine, becoming the first female National Guard servicemember to receive this highest state honor.
