The family of People's Deputy Areshonkov bought a house in Transcarpathia for 800,000 hryvnias
In 2022, the family of People’s Deputy Volodymyr Areshonkov purchased a house with an area of about 200 square meters in Vyshkov, in the Zakarpattia region. As journalists from “Schemes” discovered, his 88-year-old mother’s official income was insufficient to cover such a purchase, while the MP himself insists that the family had the money. After journalists began investigating the property, the house was sold and transferred to another relative.
According to the “Schemes” investigation, the Areshonkov family purchased the house in the village of Vyshkovo in the summer of 2022. According to the documents, the deputy’s mother became the owner of the property. At that time, she was 88 years old. According to the purchase agreement, the house cost approximately 800,000 hryvnias. The land plot, measuring seven sotok, cost an additional 12,000 hryvnias.
Journalists note that at the time of purchase, similar real estate in Zakarpattia could have cost significantly more. After the start of the full-scale invasion, demand for housing in the region increased, and house prices there rose significantly. According to an estimate cited by “Schemes” based on data from the State Property Fund, as of April 2026, such a house could have cost about 200,000 dollars.
The mother’s official income was insufficient to cover the purchase
The journalists’ main question concerned the source of the funds used to purchase the house. According to “Schemes,” over more than 20 years, the deputy’s mother’s official income totaled just over 300,000 hryvnias. Of this amount, about 30,000 hryvnias came from other official sources, and she received approximately 270,000 hryvnias in pension payments over nearly ten years.
In other words, the woman’s officially declared income does not explain where the funds for the purchase of the house and land could have come from. Volodymyr Areshonkov himself denies having any involvement in the real estate purchase. In a comment to journalists, he called the purchase “a financial matter among family members.” According to the lawmaker, the house was unfinished at the time of purchase, and its owner was allegedly in a hurry to sell the property because he was planning to move abroad.
The lawmaker says his mother used to run a business
Explaining the source of the money, Areshonkov stated that his mother had been an entrepreneur at one time. “She was a private entrepreneur for ten years, sold goods at the market, and had a kiosk,” the lawmaker said. However, journalists from “Schemes” note that they were unable to find confirmation of this information in publicly available sources.
According to Areshonkov, his daughter may have provided part of the money for the purchase of the house. The lawmaker claims that she and her husband worked in the U.S. for about ten years and ran a business there.
Journalists checked this information in U.S. business registries. There, they found two companies linked to the couple. According to the registries, both are no longer active: one company was marked as inactive since 2021, and the other since 2022.
There are also questions regarding the lawmaker’s financial disclosures
“Schemes” also drew attention to the declarations of Volodymyr Areshonkov himself. According to journalists, over more than ten years of service in parliament, his declared capital did not grow but, on the contrary, decreased. In his 2025 declaration, the lawmaker did not list any personal housing or a car. Among his real estate holdings, he listed two land plots in the Zhytomyr region.
A residential house in Korosten belongs to his wife. The lawmaker also uses his wife’s car. At the same time, his wife’s official income over 27 years of work in the education sector, according to investigators, amounted to approximately 350,000 hryvnias.
At the same time, the deputy’s family kept their money in government bonds. In his 2025 declaration, Areshonkov reported 4.5 million hryvnias received from the redemption of these securities, as well as approximately 500,000 hryvnias in interest.
In his 2022 financial disclosure statement, when they purchased a house in Zakarpattia, the lawmaker reported 1.7 million hryvnias in cash. According to “Schemes,” the family did not spend this money on the house. As early as 2023, they invested about 1.6 million hryvnias of it in securities.
After speaking with journalists, the house was sold
There is another detail that caught the investigators’ attention. Journalists found a photo from 2022 that Areshonkov posted on his Facebook page. In it, the lawmaker poses in front of that very house. The post appeared about a month after the purchase was finalized.
At the same time, “Schemes” found another video on the lawmaker’s page. It was posted about two months before the transaction. The house can also be seen in the video. Journalists compared the building’s appearance before and after the purchase and noted that, judging by the photos, the exterior facade had not changed significantly.
After the journalists traveled to Zakarpattia and spoke with the lawmaker, the house was sold. According to the investigation, this happened in less than two weeks. Another relative of Areshonkov—his mother-in-law—became the new owner of the property.
Other valuable assets were also found in the family’s possession
“Schemes” didn’t stop there. Journalists also reported that in March 2026, a 2019 Skoda Kodiaq and an apartment in the Kyiv residential complex “Faina Town” were re-registered in the name of Vitaliy Areshonkov, the lawmaker’s son. Previously, this property belonged to Vitaliy’s grandmother—the MP’s mother.
According to the journalists, the total value of the assets they uncovered belonging to the family of an Economic Security Bureau (ESB) employee—through his wife—amounts to at least 12 million hryvnias. Vitaliy Areshonkov himself currently works at the ESB.
Areshonkov did not explain the source of the funds
Journalists from “Schemes” sent Volodymyr Areshonkov a request asking about the source of the funds used by the family to purchase the real estate. In his response, the deputy stated that these questions pertained to an assessment of his integrity. Therefore, he forwarded the inquiry to the Economic Security Bureau’s Second Certification Commission, which is currently conducting performance evaluations of the agency’s employees.
According to “Schemes,” no response was received to a separate inquiry sent by journalists to Vitaliy Areshonkov on May 7, 2026, nor to additional messages sent via messaging apps.
Areshonkov voted for a law that restricted NABU and the SAP
Volodymyr Areshonkov is also mentioned in the investigation in connection with his vote for a law that significantly curtailed the independence of NABU and the SAP. In the summer of 2025, he was among the 263 members of parliament who supported the bill.
Following criticism and protests, the Verkhovna Rada subsequently adopted amendments that restored the anti-corruption agencies’ previous guarantees of independence. The mere fact of voting for the law does not prove any connection between the lawmaker and the source of funds for the property. “Schemes” presents this information as context for the investigation into the family’s wealth.
