Koretsky called for the leadership of Energoatom to be replaced as soon as possible

Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi held his first meeting with the supervisory board of NAEK “Energoatom” and emphasized the need for a prompt overhaul of the company’s management team.

He assured that the government is ready to provide the new leadership of “Energoatom” with all necessary support.

"I held my first meeting with the supervisory board of 'Energoatom.' The government expects the supervisory board to carry out a thorough overhaul of the company’s management. This is a top priority. The government will provide all necessary support,” he wrote on his Telegram channel following Wednesday’s meeting.

The prime minister emphasized that “the new top management must be formed as soon as possible following a transparent and competitive selection process.”

According to him, he also discussed with members of the supervisory board the financial condition of the state-owned company and the status of preparations for the fall-winter period.

“Such meetings will be held regularly,” he announced.

As previously reported, according to a forecast by First Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Denys Shmyhal, NAEK “Energoatom” will have a new chairman of the board and a renewed executive body no later than October, based on the results of a competition for which the deadline for submitting applications was July 31, 2026.

As for NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine,” for which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed appointing former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko as head, the coordinator of the “Energy and Climate” sector at the Ukraine Facility Platform and corporate governance expert Oleksandr Vizir noted a week ago in a comment to “EnergoReform” that, most likely, negotiations are still ongoing with the independent members of the company’s supervisory board (SB), which has the authority to appoint the chair of the management board or the acting chair.

For her part, Olga Babiy, a former member of the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Public Utilities (NKREKP), Olga Babiy, in a comment to “EnergoReform,” noted that Yulia Svyrydenko is “the ideal solution for Naftogaz” and does not know why she has not yet been appointed.

Prime’er Koretskyi, during Question Time with the government in the Verkhovna Rada on August 21, noted that he considers it ideal if the new chair of the board of NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine” were appointed after the 2026/27 fall-winter period (OZP).

The Prime Minister of Ukraine wrote about this on his Telegram channel.

Koretsky warned of a difficult winter due to intensified attacks by Russia.

Ukraine is already preparing its power grid for the upcoming heating season, which is forecast to be no less difficult than the previous one.

As a reminder, gas imports to Ukraine fell 28-fold in April.

Ukraine will increase gas imports from Poland, according to the regulator.
