The Ministry of Health wants to bring school nurses under its wing
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine proposes reforming the healthcare system in educational institutions by transferring nurses from school staff to medical facilities.
This was announced by Health Minister Viktor Lyashko during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada, emphasizing the need to equalize pay levels for medical professionals, according to Ukrinform.
According to the minister, the work of medical staff in schools is currently funded by local governments.
Due to the limited capacity of local budgets, these salaries are significantly lower than those of colleagues working in medical facilities under contracts with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU).
This situation has led to a staffing shortage in the education sector, where mostly specialists of retirement age remain on the job.
Young professionals more often choose hospitals included in the Medical Guarantees Program, or leave the profession altogether due to low financial incentives.
The government has already approved an updated procedure for providing medical care to students, which offers flexible approaches to organizing the process.
The new model allows schools to receive medical services directly from healthcare facilities operating in the relevant area.
“We, as the Ministry of Health, are ready to provide additional funding for those healthcare facilities that take on medical care for educational institutions. In this way, we will address the issue of medical workers being paid by sources other than the Medical Guarantees Program and evenly distribute the workload among all medical workers,” said Lyashko.
The introduction of additional funding coefficients will allow healthcare facilities to offer school nurses decent working conditions and higher salaries.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Health and Superhumans signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of maxillofacial surgery.
The Ministry of Health has also updated the treatment standards for viral hepatitis C.
