In the Cherkasy region, a police officer was selling psychotropic drugs; he faces up to 10 years in prison
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations, with the assistance of National Police leadership, exposed a neighborhood police officer in the Cherkasy region for the illegal trafficking of psychotropic substances. The law enforcement officer has already been notified of the charges against him and has been suspended from duty.
According to the SBI, in July, the officer purchased several grams of PVP—a particularly dangerous psychotropic substance whose distribution is prohibited in Ukraine. He stored the drug with the intent to resell it.
In August, according to the investigation, the officer again purchased a psychotropic substance—MDMA. He also stored it for further sale.
During authorized searches, the substances and other evidence that may indicate his illegal activities were seized from the police officer. An expert examination confirmed that the seized substances are dangerous psychotropic drugs.
The police officer was notified of the charges against him under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—the illegal acquisition and possession of psychotropic substances for the purpose of distribution, as well as their illegal distribution.
If found guilty, the police officer faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
