A deserter detained in the Chernihiv region attempted to offer a bribe of 40,000 hryvnias
Service members of the Chernihiv Regional Division of the Military Law Enforcement Service detained a man who had been wanted since November 2023 for deserting his military unit. He attempted to bribe an officer to have the charges dropped.
While at the regional department’s premises, the detainee offered a Military Law Enforcement Service officer 40,000 hryvnias to have his name removed from the wanted list and to avoid the legal consequences. Law enforcement officers immediately reported the attempted bribery to the relevant authorities, after which National Police investigators opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 369 (offering a bribe to a public official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
After the entire amount was transferred to a bank card as part of a sting operation, the serviceman was detained by police investigators together with employees of the Strategic Investigations Directorate in Chernihiv Oblast and representatives of the Military Law Enforcement Service.
