Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast May Get Its First Border Crossing with Romania
In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, plans are underway to open the first border crossing with Romania, which is intended to connect the Verkhovyna district with the Romanian county of Maramures.
Negotiations on this matter are being conducted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romanian President Nicușor Dan. Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast shares a border with Romania, but there is currently no operational border crossing in this area. The need to open a border crossing was previously discussed by leaders of mountain communities during an August meeting with the head of state.
The project is essential for economic development and for replenishing the budgets of mountain communities in the Kosiv and Verkhovyna districts. During the Carpathian Economic Forum, Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi confirmed the intention of Ukraine and Romania to sign an agreement on the development of border regions and the expansion of transport corridors. Representatives of communities in the Carpathian region have also already visited Romania and signed four cooperation agreements.

Ukraine has opened a new road border crossing on the border with Romania. The “Bila Tserkva–Sighetu Marmatiei” border crossing in Zakarpattia Oblast will operate around the clock and will use temporary infrastructure for the time being. Passenger vehicles weighing up to 3.5 metric tons will be able to pass through it.
Ukraine and Romania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening cooperation to ensure the reliable transit of Ukrainian goods, as well as the development of transport links and border infrastructure.
