In Lviv Oblast, a mobile crane collided with a train, killing a veteran train engineer
On the morning of May 1, a tragic accident occurred at a railroad crossing in the Lviv region—a mobile crane drove onto the tracks despite the warning signals and collided with a passenger train. The train engineer, a war veteran, was killed in the incident.
The details of the tragedy were reported by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia.
According to him, the accident was caused by the actions of the heavy equipment operator, who ignored the safety signals at the crossing.
“And this isn’t an enemy drone… It’s just another reckless driver who drove onto the crossing this morning in the Lviv region. Despite the signals that were working. A truck crane. The result—a tragedy,” he noted.
At the moment of the collision, there were doctors on the train who tried to save the train driver, but they were unable to do so.
“There were doctors on the train who tried to save him—but, unfortunately, there was no chance. The assistant engineer and the engineer himself are in the hospital,” Pertsovsky reported.
According to him, there were no casualties among the passengers or train crew members. The train was quickly removed from the tracks, allowing service to resume promptly.
The company’s head also emphasized that the deceased engineer was a veteran who had returned from the front lines and continued working on the railroad.

“The deceased engineer was our veteran. He returned from the front lines and went back to work. And he died because of such a despicable act by yet another person trying to sneak through on a hunch,” he added.
The circumstances of the accident are under investigation.
Earlier in the Cherkasy region, three people were killed and two others were injured in a collision between two cars. The injured were hospitalized, and police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, the case of the judge from Kryvyi Rih who struck an 11-year-old boy at a crosswalk has been referred to court.
