A soldier was detained in the Odesa region on suspicion of bribery
In the Odesa region, a military servicemember was detained on suspicion of accepting a bribe in exchange for promising to help a person subject to military conscription have his name removed from the wanted list. According to investigators, he claimed he could influence officials at one of the district military registration and enlistment offices and the military commissariat.
In the Odesa region, law enforcement officers detained a servicemember suspected of receiving an illegal benefit in exchange for a promise to help a conscript avoid problems related to being on the wanted list. This was reported by the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to preliminary data, the man demanded money from the conscript, claiming that he could influence officials at one of the district territorial recruitment and social support centers in the Odesa region.
In exchange for this money, law enforcement officials claim, the suspect promised to help have the conscript removed from the wanted list, onto which he had been placed for violating mobilization laws. The Military Law Enforcement Service noted that initial investigative and procedural actions were carried out following the arrest. “The suspect demanded and was to receive an unlawful benefit from a conscript in exchange for exerting influence on officials at one of the Regional Recruitment and Social Support Centers in the Odesa region, with the aim of removing the conscript from the wanted list for violating mobilization laws,” the Military Law Enforcement Service reported.
They also added that following the arrest, law enforcement officers carried out the necessary investigative actions to document the circumstances of the alleged crime and secure physical evidence. The arrest operation was carried out by National Police officers with the participation of members of the “Scorpion” rapid response and special operations unit of the Odesa Regional Department of the Military Law Enforcement Service.
Prosecutors from the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense Affairs in the Southern Region are overseeing the proceedings in the case. The pretrial investigation is currently ongoing. Law enforcement officials are establishing all the circumstances of the case and verifying whether other individuals may have been involved in the alleged scheme. The Military Law Enforcement Service emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that the court will provide the final legal assessment of the detainee’s actions. A person is presumed innocent until a guilty verdict becomes final. This was reported by the Military Law Enforcement Service (MLES) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
