In the Carpathian region, a 64-year-old man is suspected of sexually assaulting a teenager
In the Carpathian region, law enforcement officers detained a 64-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy. According to the investigation, the man lured the teenager to his home under the pretext of offering him a part-time job, got him drunk, and then took advantage of his helpless state.
According to the investigation, the man offered the 15-year-old boy a part-time job. He said he needed help loading items they planned to sell into a car. The teenager agreed. However, according to law enforcement, when the boy arrived, the man claimed that the car had supposedly broken down on the way. He suggested they wait and have a drink. According to the investigation, the man had prepared a mixture of ethanol and wine in advance. After the boy drank it, he became ill and fell asleep.
Law enforcement officials believe the man took advantage of the teenager’s helpless state and committed non-penetrative sexual assault against him. The incident occurred in early August. According to Zhanna Dutchak, a spokesperson for the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, after the boy woke up, he realized what had happened and began calling for help.
“Upon waking up, the victim raised a commotion, ran out of the apartment, and immediately told his family everything; they then reported the incident to law enforcement,” said Zhanna Dutchak. The 64-year-old man was detained. He was notified that he is suspected of violating Part 3 of Article 153 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—sexual assault of a minor. If the man is found guilty in court, he faces up to seven years in prison.
Initially, the Ivano-Frankivsk City Court ordered the suspect to be held in pretrial detention. At the same time, the court allowed bail to be set at 266,000 hryvnias. The prosecutor’s office disagreed with this decision and appealed it to the appellate court. As a result, prosecutors succeeded in having the pretrial measure changed. The man was remanded in custody without the right to post bail. The pretrial investigation is ongoing. The court is to provide a final legal assessment of the man’s actions. This was reported on Friday, August 28, by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
