In the Carpathian region, the director of an institution will face trial for illegal bonuses
On June 16, a case was referred to court in the Carpathian region involving the director of a municipal council-run public institution, who is accused of awarding herself bonuses totaling nearly 150,000 hryvnias. According to the investigation, the case involves abuse of office.
Prosecutors from the Sniatyn Division of the Kolomyia District Prosecutor’s Office have filed an indictment against the 35-year-old director of a municipal institution of one of the city councils in the Carpathian region. The woman is charged with official negligence that caused significant harm to the interests of the community (Part 1 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that from January 2022 to August 2023, the official issued orders awarding herself bonuses “for conscientious performance of her official duties.” According to the investigation, she did so illegally, as under the law, awarding bonuses to heads of structural units of local self-government bodies falls within the exclusive authority of the mayor.
The amounts of the monetary bonuses that the official systematically awarded herself ranged from 45% to 100% of her salary.
In total, the defendant issued 20 such orders over the course of a year and a half. Based on these orders, she was unjustifiably credited with and paid nearly 150,000 UAH. The woman faces up to three years of restricted liberty for her actions.
Currently, the director of the municipal institution has fully admitted her guilt and has already reimbursed the local budget for the full amount of the damages caused, according to the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
