Border guards stopped a man wanted by the authorities in Shehyni
At the “Shehyni” border crossing, border guards stopped a 42-year-old resident of Kropyvnytskyi who had been wanted by law enforcement since May. The man was attempting to leave Ukraine when, during a document check, the system indicated that he was wanted for robbery.
The man was identified by border guards from the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment at the Shehyni border crossing. He was crossing the border to leave Ukraine. During the document check, a match was found in the database. Border guards conducted additional verification and confirmed that the man was indeed wanted.
The man is a 42-year-old resident of Kropyvnytskyi. According to law enforcement, he had been wanted since May 2026 for a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—robbery. This article refers to the open theft of another person’s property. That is, unlike theft, which is attempted in secret, robbery involves the open taking of another person’s property.
After the information was confirmed, the man was detained. Border guards handed him over to representatives of the National Police of Ukraine, who are to carry out further procedural actions.
Part 1 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides for various types of punishment. Depending on the circumstances of the case, this may include a fine ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 non-taxable minimum incomes, community service for a period of 120 to 240 hours, correctional labor for up to two years, probation for up to four years, or imprisonment for up to four years.
At the same time, the mere fact that a person is wanted does not mean that a court has already established their guilt. The final decision regarding the man’s liability must be made by a court as part of criminal proceedings. This case demonstrates once again that when crossing the state border, border guards check not only documents but also information from relevant databases. If the system flags a person as wanted, border guards verify this information and hand the individual over to the competent law enforcement agencies.
In this case, the man was unable to continue his journey across the border. After his detention, he was handed over to the police for further legal action. This was reported by the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment.
As a reminder, the Hlukhiv quartzite quarry in the village of Banychi, Sumy Oblast, has been put up for privatization with a starting price of 98.64 million UAH. The enterprise previously belonged to sanctioned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska and was later confiscated by the state.
In addition, the State Property Fund of Ukraine is preparing the AmstelSki hotel complex in Bukovel for privatization; it previously belonged to Vyacheslav Zanevsky, a sanctioned former head of security for Viktor Yanukovych and a current officer in the Russian Armed Forces. Currently, all seizures and encumbrances have been lifted by the courts; an inventory is underway, along with an asset valuation and the registration of property rights to the land plots for subsequent sale.
