In the Ternopil region, a man was sentenced to 15 years for sexually assaulting his niece

A resident of the Ternopil region was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting his 11-year-old niece. The court found that the man took advantage of the child’s trust and committed the crime first near a river and later in the house where they lived. In addition to his prison sentence, he has been barred from working with children, and his information will be entered into a special registry of individuals convicted of crimes against the sexual integrity of children.

The Berezhany District Court in Ternopil Oblast found a man guilty of sexually assaulting his 11-year-old niece. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The man took the girl fishing. It was then, on the riverbank, that he committed the crime against the child.

Later, the man molested his niece again in the house where they lived. According to the investigation, the girl’s mother and other relatives were not at home at the time. During the trial, prosecutors proved that the man was aware of the child’s age and her vulnerable state but deliberately took advantage of this.

The court sentenced him to the maximum penalty—15 years in prison. The man was also barred from working with children for three years. In addition, his information must be entered into the Unified Register of Persons Convicted of Crimes Against the Sexual Freedom and Sexual Integrity of Minors. The court’s verdict may still be appealed. This was reported by the Ternopil Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
