Plans are underway to create a protective dome over Kharkiv to defend against FPV drones

The Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, in collaboration with the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter,” is developing a pilot project to actively counter enemy FPV drones, including those operating via fiber-optic cables. 

The specialized system will first be tested in a specific area, and once its effectiveness is confirmed, it will be scaled up to cover the entire city, creating a continuous protective “dome.” 

Funding for the testing phase will come from the regional budget, though additional funds will be needed for full implementation. According to the head of the Regional State Administration, the development is based on solutions that are already successfully deployed on the front lines and have been adapted to Kharkiv’s needs.

In addition, the project provides for passive protection in the form of anti-drone nets along the entire Kharkiv Ring Road and on Kharkiv Highway. The third line of defense will consist of additional mobile fire teams specialized specifically in destroying FPV drones.

This was announced by Oleg Synyegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration.

As a reminder, on the night of July 30, Russian troops carried out one of the largest combined attacks on Ukraine, using over 70 missiles and more than 280 attack drones. Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as the Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, came under fire.

In Poland, during the massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine on the night of July 30, an air raid alert was issued in part of the Lublin Voivodeship. After the alert ended, a crater about 10 meters in diameter and debris from an unidentified object were discovered in a field near the villages of Tarnava-Kolonia and Tokary.
