The NBU updated its official exchange rate for July 21; the dollar and the euro rose in value

The National Bank of Ukraine set the official exchange rates for Tuesday, July 21. The U.S. dollar and the euro strengthened slightly, while Ukrainians became less active in buying foreign currency.

According to NBU data, the official dollar exchange rate rose by 4 kopecks to 44.70 UAH per dollar. The euro exchange rate also rose by 4 kopecks and stands at 51.09 UAH.

Financial analyst Andriy Shevchyshyn notes that the public has reduced its activity in the cash foreign exchange market. He says this is due to the relative stability of the exchange rate, the summer season, financial monitoring measures, and an increase in current expenditures in hryvnia, which has led Ukrainians to spend more on everyday needs rather than on buying foreign currency.

According to the expert’s estimates, between July 13 and 19, the average daily purchase of cash foreign currency decreased by 9% to $86 million. At the same time, foreign currency sales rose by 2.5% to $67 million, and the average daily cash foreign currency deficit decreased by 34.4% to $19.2 million.

According to Shevchyshyn, the current level of the cash foreign currency deficit is the lowest in the past six weeks.
