Khmara has officially been appointed acting head of the Ministry of Defense

On July 20, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Yevhen Khmara to temporarily serve as acting Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

Prior to this, the government had appointed Khmara as Deputy Minister of Defense. Earlier, on July 17, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy relieved him of his duties as head of the SBU’s Special Operations Center “A” and as acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine.

As early as July 16, Zelenskyy had announced that Khmara would temporarily head the Ministry of Defense. According to the president, Khmara had led the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center and was responsible for conducting long-range operations.

At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers, by a similar decision, appointed Andriy Sibiga as acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Acting Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yevhen Khmara will be responsible not only for issues related to strikes on Russian territory but will also carry out a broader range of security tasks.

As a reminder, following Yevhen Khmara’s appointment as acting Minister of Defense, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined his main task. According to the head of state, the key focus of his work will be overseeing the long-range operations of the Ukrainian Security Forces.
