Germany Will Provide Ukraine With More Than €1.3 Billion in New Aid
Germany has allocated a new comprehensive aid package worth more than 1.3 billion euros to Ukraine. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the aid includes weapons, support for Ukraine’s energy sector, and funding for the production of new interceptors to combat “Shahed” drones. The president announced the package following a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Kyiv.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the new aid package from Germany during a joint press conference with Friedrich Merz in Kyiv. According to the head of state, the total amount of the new package exceeds 1.3 billion euros. “There is a new comprehensive support package for Ukraine, worth more than 1.3 billion euros. This includes weapons that will help us now, support for our energy sector, and a very important energy package ahead of winter,” Zelenskyy said.
Separately, the president noted that part of the funds will be directed toward the production of new interceptors. They are intended to help Ukraine combat Russian “Shahed” jet-powered drones. This effort has become particularly important due to the emergence of new Russian strike drones equipped with jet engines. At the same time, Ukraine is working on its own means of intercepting them. Zelenskyy previously reported that several prototypes of such interceptor drones already exist and that the country plans to accelerate their production.
According to Zelenskyy, as part of the current agreements, Ukraine and Germany have also signed 15 agreements and documents on security cooperation. These cover weapons production, related procurements, Ukrainian orders for German industry, and joint projects directly in Ukraine. The president estimated the total value of these agreements at more than 8.5 billion euros.
Separately, Zelenskyy noted that the German government has already allocated 11.5 billion euros to support Ukraine in 2026. During the meeting, the president also thanked Friedrich Merz for the chancellor’s visit to Kyiv amid intensifying Russian attacks.
Zelenskyy stated that Russia had attempted to intimidate Ukraine’s international partners through threats, shelling, and air raid alerts. According to him, the goal was to prevent their visits to Kyiv and Ukraine. “In recent days, Russia has been openly trying to intimidate our European, American, and other partners with direct threats, constant air raid alerts, and shelling, so that our partners would not be here in the capital or in Ukraine,” the president said.
He specifically thanked Germany for keeping its embassy in Ukraine open and maintaining bilateral cooperation. “But I am very grateful once again that this visit is taking place, that the German embassy continues its work in Ukraine, and that the full scope of our cooperation with Germany—our strategic partnership—remains intact,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
The German government also confirmed that Friedrich Merz had arrived in Ukraine to demonstrate continued support for Kyiv. The chancellor stated that Germany will continue to assist Ukraine, and that cooperation between the two countries should also include joint projects and business activities. The new package covers several areas at once—defense, energy, and preparations for the winter season. Particular emphasis is placed on developing capabilities to protect Ukraine from new types of Russian attack drones.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited the damaged building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv. They spoke with rescue workers who were cleaning up the aftermath of the Russian strike on September 28. During the meeting in the capital, an air raid alert was sounded again due to the threat of Russian attacks.
