After spending time at a lake near Lviv, nearly 30 children were admitted to the hospital

In the Lviv region, Lake Zadorozhne—known among vacationers as “Baikal”—has been temporarily closed to visitors and swimmers. This decision was made following an outbreak of an acute intestinal infection, which resulted in nearly 30 children who had been vacationing near the lake being hospitalized.

Local authorities noted that the restrictions were imposed based on a recommendation from Natalia Ivanchenko, the chief state sanitary doctor of Lviv Oblast, with the aim of containing the infection and protecting public health.

“An outbreak of acute intestinal infection has been reported in Lviv Oblast among people who were vacationing at Lake Zadorozhne,” the statement reads.

According to local authorities, those hospitalized exhibited symptoms including nausea, vomiting, digestive disorders, and fever. Currently, specialists from the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine are conducting an epidemiological investigation to determine the exact causes of the mass illness.

The Mykolaiv community emphasized that the ban on swimming is a necessary temporary measure and will remain in effect through July 7, 2026.

“We urge everyone to take this warning seriously, refrain from water activities during this period, and prioritize safety—both your own and that of your children,” local officials told residents and visitors to the community.

As a reminder, it was previously reported that in early July, twenty children aged 2 to 14 were hospitalized in the Lviv region after vacationing with their parents at a lake in the Stryi district. Doctors diagnosed them with an intestinal infection.

Subsequently, Natalia Ivanchenko, the state sanitary doctor for the Lviv region, reported that the number of cases had risen to 29. According to her, those affected include two adults and 27 children under the age of 18, and 28 patients are currently receiving inpatient treatment.

This information was reported with reference to the Mykolaiv City Territorial Community.

Following a record heat wave, Lviv was hit by a heavy downpour accompanied by squall-force winds.

On June 30, Ukraine will experience extreme heat, with temperatures reaching +38°C.
