Poland will not block Ukraine's EU accession negotiations

Poland will not block Ukraine's EU accession negotiations

Poland will not create obstacles to the opening of negotiation clusters as part of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski during a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga in Kyiv.

At the same time, the Polish minister cautioned that the negotiation process itself will not be easy. According to him, Ukraine is already ready to move forward in the negotiations, but completing certain clusters may take a considerable amount of time.

Sikorski also expressed hope that Ukraine will complete the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, particularly the provisions on a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. He noted that this could allow Ukraine to gain access to the single market even before becoming a full member of the EU.

Separately, the Polish foreign minister commented on the Russian attacks. He stated that Russian terrorism has already directly affected Europe, and that strikes near the Polish border also pose a threat to Poland’s security.

Sikorski emphasized that Ukraine and Poland will not allow Russia to determine their future. According to him, the latest attacks should serve as further proof to Poles that the security of the two countries is inextricably linked.

“Russian terrorism isn’t just knocking on Europe’s door—it has already walked through that door,” the Polish minister said.
