The British Prime Minister arrived in Kyiv with good news regarding missiles for Ukraine

On August 24, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham arrived in Kyiv on his first overseas visit since taking office. London will allow the disclosure of classified information about the British components of SCALP missiles, which should help Ukraine and France establish local assembly lines for them.

The British government has authorized the defense contractor MBDA to disclose classified information about the British components of the SCALP long-range missile—the French variant of the British Storm Shadow. Both missiles utilize joint French and British technologies.

This will allow France and Ukraine to establish local assembly of the missiles directly on Ukrainian territory.

Previously, the UK became the first country to transfer long-range weapons to Ukraine for defensive purposes as early as 2023 — this new step complements the UK’s large-scale efforts to develop low-cost long-range weapons for Ukraine as part of the Brakestop project.

Burnam will visit Kyiv a few weeks after hosting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the UK in July—a visit that marked the new prime minister’s first reception of a foreign guest.

“On the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, the Ukrainian people should have no doubt: Britain stands with you today and for as long as it takes,” Burnam said.

He added that he is proud of his country’s contribution to supporting Ukraine and wants Ukrainians to hear directly from him that this support will not waver.

“After all, Ukraine’s security is our security,” the prime minister emphasized, adding that Russia should have no doubt about Britain’s resolve, which will not waver until a just and lasting peace is achieved.

In Kyiv, Burnam will participate in events marking Independence Day and will chair, for the first time, a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing”—an international group that discusses continued support for Ukraine. The prime minister is expected to receive an award on behalf of the British people in recognition of Britain’s support for Ukraine.
